My new Laptop PC
Posted by: atumbleson on Mar 30, 2010
Today I did not come to TECHie club because I was not feeling well. My mom and dad bought the family a new laptop today:  a gateway laptop PC. It has the Intel Core i3 processor 330M, 17.3 LED LCD screen, 500 GB Hard drive, 4 GB of memory, built-in webcam and a card reader for me to download my pictures from my camera onto the computer, and a few more things that a lot of laptop PCs have installed in them.  It’s really nice and will help me to learn more about computers and the programs installed on them while I'm at home and not at TECHie club.

TECHie Club

Today we learned that computers are dumb but we tell them what to do and we made a jelly sandwich. It is hard to tell them what to do but we had to be real specific on what to do.

Future jobs
Posted by: jstaggs on Mar 31, 2010
On the Innovate 21 website I did a job simulation. I majored in engineering. I also went to school for 9 years. My job fair for engineering was in Biomedical Engineering. I thought this job was cool because you get to work with technology that can save lives. For instance making an artificial heart could keep a person alive. In the company I worked for in the job simulation, I had to do something that had to do with improving vision. If I was in college, I would like to get (at least) my Bachelor’s degree and my Master’s degree both in engineering.

Techie Jobs :)
Posted by: lpierce on Mar 31, 2010
Today in TECHie club we learned about techie jobs. Techie jobs are jobs that include computers; pretty much all jobs are techie jobs. Today we went on a website called youinnovate21.net; it is all about techie jobs. You could go to school to get your PhD, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree, you could also choose your major and jobs for the job fair. We also learned about businesses which help other people create techie business. Can't wait till next week!

Today in TECHie club we were on a website that let us show what job we wanted that had to do with information technology. And the perfect job I would love to have is being a software engineer. The number one reason why I would want to have this job is because I love building. I have been interested in constructing stuff all my life. And now I’d love to learn how to build software. The second reason why I would like to have this job is because I'm interested in computers. I like learning about them and I like to take them apart. I also like to start from scratch and build stuff from there. So this job would give me the opportunity to learn how computers use software and also in the process I hope I can learn to make software for computers and that will  allow me to do all the stuff I love when it comes to computers.

Penny packet!
Posted by: lpierce on Mar 24, 2010
Today in class we learned about penny packet! She is a person who carries information around your computer.  She also goes on missions! Me and my friend B Saunders did one of her missions including a chic named Harmony who lives in Chicago. We also learned about tech jobs. Tech jobs are jobs that include technology. Almost all jobs are tech jobs we found out. I can't wait till next week! :)

Peter Packet
Posted by: kchenoweth on Mar 24, 2010
Today, we learned all about Peter packet. I learned about hackers, viruses, and how computers send information. They send packets. Hackers are bad guys who steal information, like codes and email addresses and things like that.

TRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: tmcclerking on Mar 24, 2010
Today we played a really cool game called Penny Packet. And the chief of a very important company (Progressive Medical) came in and talked to us about what his business does and how it works. He also talked about his childhood and how computers inspired him to be interested in technology.

Robots
Posted by: ahernandez on Mar 18, 2010
Hi. For the 3rd week in a row we did robots. Here are some of the robots we have done: line follower, bumper car, hand cranked car, and a few other types of robots. I think building robots, especially since there are just pictures (which are much easier to follow). But they're cool because as long as you get the right software on the "NXT Brick," the actual part to get it working is pretty cool to watch it operate. So that's all that we did for these past three weeks.

pig latin (igpay atinlay) Algorithm
Posted by: ceverett on Mar 15, 2010
I have known how to speak pig latin for a while now, and now I'll tell you how to. I have explained this many times before and if it's not pig latin, don't hesitate to tell me. Okay, this is how you do it. You put the first letter at the end and after the first letter (now last letter) you add -ay. Here is the tricky part. If you can't seperate the sound of the word like or, I, and a, you add -way. So or=orway, I=Iway, and a=away (not away, ayway).and you also put the first 2 letters in some cases like -sh. -ch. -th, -br, -pl, ect.
I will now recite a quote from  hamlet in pig latin
"Otay ebay orway otnay otay ebay: atthay isway ethay
estionquay: etherwhay istay
oblernay inway ethay
indmay otay uffersay ethay ingsslay andway arrowsway
ofway outrageousway ortunefay, orway otay aketay
armsway againstway away easay ofway oublestray andway
ybay opposingway endway emthay?

Techie Club
Posted by: jstaggs on Mar 17, 2010
Today in techie club we learned about how to make our own sprites on scratch using our own heads! First, you take picture of yourself and download it onto your computer.  Then you save your picture on the desktop (or save your picture somewhere else). Next, you upload your picture on the scratch website. Finally you can do technically do anything.

WHAT A LEARNING EXPERIENCE!!!!!!
Posted by: tbruegman on Mar 19, 2010
In TECHie Club we learned a lot of things that we never knew. Like, for example, I learned that the computer has so many parts. And that almost everything is connected to the motherboard. I also learned that just to play a movie on your computer the data has to go through the motherboard, the processor, the memory and many more things. And the memory and the hard drive are an important part of the computer. And when I blog again come read and learn more!!!!!

Evil Viruses and Dangerous Hackers
Posted by: bsaunders on Mar 10, 2010
Today in TECHie club, we played computer games. Do not worry because the game we played (peter packet) taught us all about computer viruses and the game also taught us about computer hackers. During the traveling part of the game, the viruses and hackers would slow you down and if you got slowed down then you would lose points. When you got to the next level, you had to fix a broken router. What you would have to do during the level is the lines would either be broken or clogged up with other packets. Also you would have to click the same line over and over because all of the other lines would be like I said earlier broken or clogged up. I found that extremely annoying. After that you would get to the final level. During that level you would have to get a jet-pack and dodge hackers and interruptions (the interruptions looked like tornadoes.) After the game we learned about browsers and that you would need one to make games on the internet. The game I was talking about was also really really fun but yet extremely educational. Back to browsers. It turns out that you can copy source code from browsers and so that is why many many companies keep it safe and they also make it unaccesible. What hackers do is they try to steal or copy many peoples' data. Hackers not only try to do that but they also on public websites like this try to guess someone's usernames and passwords. If they get it right, then many time they could find out very personal information. That is just one reason why you should have complicated usernames and passwords but so complicated that makes you unable to remember. In fact that reminds me of right before I got onto my file today I had to get out my password paper because I probably made my password too hard. Well, just for now GOODBIE!!!

Peter Packet
Posted by: jstaggs on Mar 10, 2010
Today in TECHie club, we did a game called Peter Packet. In this game, you try to get Peter to the sever (a server is a tool that receives messages).  You have to jump over viruses and hacker nets. If you don't, you get slowed down.  In the game, you have to help a router do its job (a router tries to send packets to their destinations on the fastest route).

In My TECHie Club Class
Posted by: tbruegman on Mar 02, 2010
Today we learned that a terabyte is bigger than a megabyte. And we also learned that the processer is like the brain of a computer. In TECHie club, we learn a lot! Look at my blog next week after we take apart a computer. There will be more cool information!

Dino
Posted by: jgamino on Mar 02, 2010
We did scratch again to learn how to use the animations. We did an example on dinosaurs. We were broadcasting and sensing. We were changing colors on the dinosaur. We are going to do this again next week.

Scratch
Posted by: wstaggs on Mar 03, 2010
Today in TECHie club, we learned more about Scratch.  First, we were taught how to create a game on Scratch.  The game I created was about a butterfly who had to go around the screen and eat all three bowls of cheese puffs before the baseball hit her.  We also had to give directions to the sprites (characters) so they could know what to do in the game.  Finally, I clicked on the green flag button to try out the game I created.
